Software companies are creating software. Sure. But they are also actively leveraging third party software via inbound licensing, partnerships and mergers and acquisitions. This book focuses on licensing, partnerships and M&A aspects and provides an up-to-date, comprehensive coverage of these aspects from both an academic and a practitioner´s point of view.
With this book you will be able to
Analyze supply chains of software vendors.
Define and evaluate supply relationships in software supply chains.
Define and evaluate partnerships in the software business.
Identify players and roles in mergers and acquisitions processes.
Define phases and tasks of M&A processes.
Analyze opportunities and risks of M&A projects.
These problem areas are addressed and solutions are presented in the new book presented here.
Target audience
The book is equally aimed at computer science and information systems students as well as managers and professionals in the software industry.
What is new in the second edition?
A lot has changed in the software industry over the last years, like the fact that insights into software supply chains and esp. the bills of materials for software products have become mainstream. Standards like CycloneDX have been established, and software bills of materials (SBOMs) are required by customers from software vendors.
The number of specialized software tools to support the M&A process and management of supply chains is steadily increasing. Where appropriate, I have added information about such tools. You will also find pointers to these tools in the index.
Many more questions are available in each section of this second edition; they are taken from the university exams. Some literature was added to sections which were lacking proper sources. More emphasis has been put on the concept of information asymmetry in this book, too. Typos have been corrected, and the semantic precision has been improved.
